any way to track a cell phone?

i was hikig with my dog whos got this dog bag, he carries all my stuff. he smelled a wild pig and went off, was gone for about 40 min, and came back without the bag.

my cell phone was on, along with my camera and wallet and ipod were in there.

anyone know or have experience with GPS locating lost phones? i know the police can do it, but theyd probably laugh in my face if i asked them to give me a location of my phone in the forest.

Best thing to do it try and call it, listen for the ringtone as PapaW suggested !
