Not sure about the surfing world but i know the legendary Mike Stewart took the time answer questions online.

Wish some of the surf pros would do the same

It's virtually guaranteed that a certain percentage do.

You see, even the tour guys use the web to predict surf.

And certain current and former pros of various types even use their real name on line (such as Cheyne and Nick Carrol).

We "know" a large number of them use various pseudonyms but of course there isn't and hard evidence of it

If you think about the large, high-traffic surf forums it's a virtually certain that some percentage of the members are "pros".
