Hi folks I am new to this forum, but thought I would sound you all out about firewire boards. My boyfriend is looking at spending some hard earned cash on getting one. Has anyone ridden them as yet? I am trying to tell him to get on a locally shaped board at a better price..but hey Taj Burrow rides them so they must be good!

Any help either way...I'll probably endup getting one myself!

Never ridden one myself but my friend bought one, loves it. Pretty expensive though.

Urm... Bad news I am afraid.

Since Bert Burger (now of Sunova Surfboards) moved on quality control at Firewire seems to have taken a MASSIVE dive.

Check out the Sways thread where people are spewing about the new boards - Firewire QC... what gives???.

The upshot?

Taj won't be riding the new ones, methinks.

Your boyfriend is probably going to be better off contacting his friendly neighbourhood Compsand member or Bert or a good local custom board maker. If he absolutely has to have a Firewire board he'd better buy one second hand - otherwise flushing his cash down the dunny will probably give a similar result!

I was out last week and this guy had a firewire and I asked if he could really tell the difference between a regular PE board and the firewire and he said only when the wave has power. I say get something local shaped or a JS I love mine, best board ive ever ridden

Thats exactly what they want you to think. You gotta remember that the boards Taj rides are each specially made specifically for him. Its likely that the ones they sell you are a lot cheaper and not very well made.

I heard that they will be sold in the UK in september and will cost around £500. Sounds waaay too much.

Well looks like they are making them in Thailand, so I will get my local surfshop to stock a few in and I'll have a look. Loads of people are saying the quality of boards has dropped so much.
