what your favorite type of break? mine has to be reef. in my area theres less crowds, better surf, and you get a huge adrenaline rush in the bigger stuff. also the fear of hitting the bottom drives me to surf better (usually)

A realy nice clean point break does it for me, nice long rides slightly steep at the lip but mellow everywhere els, perfect longboaring wave

Reefs for me.. Consistant solid sections. You will improve your riding soooo much on reefs purly becuase of the solid regular sections.

Tough choice between reef or point. Both have great characteristics... I would think I would actually prefer a nice long left point break, steep and hollow, peeling.

Only ever having surfed rocky reefs, and only since feb this year, I would really like to know what the difference is.

The breaks I've surfed are usually fast steep and hollow, and today, at low tide was very powerful, surprisingly so, I just had my first lesson in not becoming complacent.

So what is the difference? In easy to understand speak please.......

well, it depends on the swell and stuff, because there are some wicked beach breaks around with hollow surf and there are some mellower reefs, what you want to know about the difference?

It's all good if it's clean, lined up, peeling, hollow and uncrowded.

point breaks, except lots of longboarders that complain about you using a fish or a shortboard (around here at least). Beach breaks too because I'm a beginner and don't like crashing into rocks and sea snails  .

I like a nice fast beach break during a Santa Anna, the waves are paper thin and hollow.

Point break with a reef below?! Always breaks the same, predictable, usually hollower/steeper.

Heh, my fave break is peaky beach breaks, because I haven't yet gained the guts to take on a reef break (all local point breaks have jagged reef beneath the surface).
