Tricep Injury - HELP!!!!

Everytime i surf for longer than 2 hours, afterwards, i have a nasty knot in my left tricep & its driving me crazy as i cant lift the arm horizontally upwards without pain.
I condition train in the gym 4 nights a week - focusing heavily on rotator cuff conditioning & tricep endurance, and stretch thoroughly before & after every surf as well as swimming regularly.

The problem has been there for nearly a year now - a deep massage to rub the knot out always seems to work & by the evening of the next day, the pain & movement restriction is gone - but then the next time i surf - it returns.

I live in africa, so getting good professional advice on this is difficult.
I feel the pain in the side deltoid (not sure of the correct medical term for this), yet after warming the tricep up with a massage - i can feel the knot. After 20 minutes of massage & incredible pain - the knot is slowly massaged out & by the next day the problem/pain/restriction is gone.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has/had this problem - & if so how they got rid of it.

I sometimes get sore arm muscles after surfing, but its always most probably because I dont stretch beforehand.
I cant think of anything else, just stretch before you surf.

You're training too much, and focussing on training the bit that hurts. You need to cross-train the other muscles... and REST.

deltoids can be very delicate.
i recommend to train them right.. stand up straight.. hold a fairly light not a lot of resistance to begin with dumb bell in each hand and lift them away from your sides.

also try this one:

but seriously be careful as they are very delicate muscles.. i pulled on doing the cables at the gym with 45lbs on each arm and it felt like no weight but boyyyyy was i wrong.. it didn't feel like much weight but it was seriously hard on my deltoid instantly messing my right delt up BAD.

Sounds to me that your not letting it heal, try doing less weights etc, and go for resistance training ?

Swimming will help too !

Best of luck !

oh and don't work out the same muscle with free weights more than once a week.. or else you just tear a partial healed muscle back open.. you wanna.. like said in the last post.. let it heal.

Sound advice guys.
Overtraining & not enough rest seems to be the common theme on all the forums i posted this on.
I had a deep massage last night & one thing the physio commented on was that i had a lot more toxins & nodules on my left side (from the rear delts through the lats) than on the right.

He seemed to think that my right arm is a lot stronger than my left, & therefore when paddling hard - the left side is going overtime to compensate.

Anyhow, new swell starting tonight!
