Surfing Morocco and Mr Policeman

I took a surf trip to Morocco a couple of years back and spent a week over there with my girlfriend. The surf was lousy so we decided to have a look around. We went looking for the local market but got a bit lost. Fortunately (or so we thought) we came across a policeman on the street corner so we stopped to ask him directions. He got us involved in a general chat and after 15 mins he was begging us to write him a letter of introduction into England and sponsor him to move over and stay with us!
It was all we could do to get away without giving him the address where we were staying and our address and tel no of home back in England. He was determined to relocate homself and his entire family. Still, it added a little to the afternoon!

Even that I know it's a bit late to reply on your message wich you have send, I felt like I had to.
Because I don't know what beach in Morocco you went to surf but if you have never been to Bouznika Bay between Rabat and Casablanca I advice you to go there if you are looking for hugh waves (in Morocco) because I went there a few times and have met a few surfers who where really positive and sure that they would come back!

I was surfing to the north of Agadir on my trip, if I ever make it back I might give Bouznika Bay a go - I have heard that there are some pretty good spots around Casablanca. Did you surf there yourself?

However I have tried to surf, I don't think I am that good! But the point is that I know Bouznika Bay better than anyone else because my parents have got a house on that beach in Bouznika Bay, and I have spend a few times my holidays on that beach.

I totally agree, I was really dissapointed when I went that it was flat and it is still on my list to return and get some of the great waves your country has to offer. Maybe see you out in the line up one day zack.

you can't really compare Oz to Morocco!..I'm Moroccan and I've only seen Oz in films and magazins and the surf is of another standard than Morocco...It's a dream to any moroccan surfer to go there. Morocco is good in the sense that it offers reasonably good surf conditions (aaah..if it wasn't for that wind!!!) medium hot waters, good food, nice landscapes...at a short distance from Europe.

To surf patrol,

The best spots in Morocco are in the Agadir region and not in the Bouznika area like some would like to believe I am myself from casablanca and own a little place in Dahomey - just next to Bouznika Bay - where i surf regularly. It is still a treat for me to travel down to Killer, Anchor or Banana...The surf is simply of another level. Try going there in January-February

Ps. I can only apologise for these "policemen" that hassled you and your girlfriend - Morocco has its problems - poverty of means and mind being one of the most accute.

hey there. me and a mate of mine are thinking of going to morocco for 10 days surfing in early october. what do you guys think of <edit. see rules> ? any suggestions of whether to stay there or other places? any other general tips?

morrocco is,and has been,a very good surfing spot.the waves,the people,the way of life.seek and u will find much better waves,than the named spots.the waves and people r better than australia in my view.maxim for maroc

Hello Marosurfer and Nina,

I promised a friend that I would come down to Tangiers in the last 1-2 week(s) of August. I know that August is not a great time to surf. I am also unlikely to be able to make it down to around Agadir. The furthest I am likely to go south is either Rabat or Casablanca. Should I expect any surf and if so can you recommend some decent places around the north of Morocco?

Dont look past Oz if your looking for a surf trip. I live here and there is sum incredible spots that are unknown (no crowds) that match up to any surf in the HAwaiin Islands. Shipsterns in Tasmania and many places along the west coast can get up to 15- 20+ feet. ALong with smaller, nice clean barallin waves like Aussie Pipe, Mystics, Cowries and of cause Berlie. Bells is awsome as well- Australia aint that crowded all you got to do is look around!!!!!!!!!!!
