Surfing Waves

So even though less than 1k inland it was bright, sunny and pretty warm this is what we had at Aberdeen beach at 5pm today. Would you believe that there is already a couple of surfers in there, which I didn't see until I was half way accross the beach!

From the sea the horizon mearged with the sea and the land was just a shadowy blur. Every now an then you'd spot a MASSIVE wave comming towards you which actually turn out to be a ripply six feet in front of you.

Loads of fun!!

Anyone else enjoy the Fog/Harr surfing experience??

Kept thinking I was miles out back because I couldnt see the shore which was a bit scary, thought I had made it out back (because KS said so ) and then some broken sets came through and realised I was only half way there .

Once made we made it out the line up was really quiet, could see a few people but there was none of the usual chit chat and banter which made it a little but eerie but it was quite peaceful with nice clean waves.

Yeh, its fun, but i suppose you could get a bit disorientated after a wipe out ,outback, which ways the beach?

no fog at scarborough today sunny all day. got rather spectacularly sunburned. dont surf in the fog at landes in france. u could end up miles away coz its like on long straight beach.

Ohhhhhhhh yeh....Today tynemouth has fog. haha

The direction the waves are breaking.

Never surfed in the fog, looks fun though!

I've surfed in dense fog at Putts. Couldnt see the beach or the approaching sets

Fortunately it was glassy so getting on the waves at the last second was easy. Weird thing was the tops of the waves glowed

surfed at wolly in thick fog, couldnt see the beach couldnt see the sets when i got out i had drifted down almost to puts

I love moring sea mists.. well eary. esp when they happen at unusual imes of the day... Sound travels really well but it all sound dull... ghostly

Yeah, the carpark wasn't to bad, the beach and the water (where the fog was coming from) was horendous!

One of lads in the shop is an RNLI lifeguard. Last summer, every morning he used to take a paddle board out for an hour before work. One morning there was a bit of sea mist but not too bad so he started getting into the rhythm. He thought he was going straight but was actually paddling at a slight angle. After about 20mins of hard non stop paddling he took a breather, only to realise that he was in the middle of a cloud, couldn't see the beach, there was no wind and the water was perfect glass so he had no indication of where he was. Took him 30mins of panic paddling before he caught a glimpse of the end of a groyne!!!
