Surfing Waves

in the uk?

I was hoping for a trip out west but its increasingly looking a waste of time.

Unless someone knows something i dont (which is not only possible but probably)

DBBB? help.

I fancied a trip out on sunday but its looking too windy me thinks

Only just got to work.....

I was hoping for a surf this weekend too, so I'll be going through the charts and stuff as soon as the kettle has boiled!

initial look would suggest that out west its going to be difficult - there's likely to be times and places that work for a while, but finding a "weekends worth" of surf may be tricky for us travelling surfers

Back in a bit with a more informed opinion...

Okay, that didnt take long 'cos its quite an easy one

Through this week its going to be wavey and windy. The size, period and wind direction will be variable in the middle of the week so if you time it right you could get a decent wave. It'll not last that long though, its likely to change frequently, so get in there while you can!

Later in the week its looking like it'll be a simpler picture with a moderately powerful low situated close - too close! - to the west of the UK. So waves, and direct onshore for the southwest. During the weekend its going to go more southwesterly for a time, so there will be some protection from the wind at some spots.

Cold and wet for most of the week, sunshine and showers for the weekend.

Early days yet - it might change. Although Im fairly confident.

One more thing - the south coast is going to get a fairly decent groundswell at the weekend. If the wind isnt as strong as forecast, the south coast could be doable, and the tides are perfect too. Fingers crossed.

oh yeah and thanks alot dbbb, my guess work is getting better but its nice to have a level of calibration before i set off in the van.

East Coast will have a small clean wave left at the weekend unless it get blown flat by the strong winds.
Thurs/Fri the better days for some nice reef action i think Gone surfin sign will be on the shop door.

well, I hope the forecast picks up for you northern hemisphere type people...

It's looking pretty good in Sydney for me, especially considering there should be a southerly breeze just dying out by the weekend. Perfect 3-4ft beachies for me all weekend

Don't stress about form filling, by the time the bureaucracy is finished it'll be winter here... and the winds will be calm and the seas will be flat, and the days will still be around 20C....

Oh, but the seas are only calm for a day or two at a time before more 3ft seas roll up the coast, with glassy faces.

Actually, get over here quickly, because this is the best time of year! Less crowded too

K-bay will probably work to some extent over the weekend. It'll be blown out, but will provide long rides into the bay.

Er.... but you may find K-bay a bit out of your league to be honest mate.

You cant really see it, but to enter the line-up (there is no surfable shorebreak, you HAVE to get out back) you have to paddle over those rocks, and there isnt a beach at the bottom of the cliffs to get onto when you're tired - you have to paddle against the rip back across those rocks to the slipway. And the currents and rips are great if you want to go with them, but murder if you dont.

You certainly need to have confidence in what you're doing, and a fair bit of paddling fitness. Its by no means a difficult break (you can enter the water behind the line up for heavens sake) but its no beginners break either. And definitely not one to do on your own.

Just a thought....

DBBB, what's stopping you doing those forms? It's a long road to Aus, this is the only bit you can control!

Simply overwhelmed at the thought of starting!

Ive got some stuff to work out first before 100% deciding and taking the job THEN I'll start filling out the forms....

How come you can fill a form in or out?

yeah i got way too over excited there.

it sounded alot less scary in the book i was reading about it.

looks a bit rocky and i dont fancy dying before the summer.

what would you reccomend then dr?

Going to the pub? A long lay in? Putting up some shelves?
Still holding out for the wind dropping a little for later in the weekend and going southerly so Puts might be doable.

Or if you just wanna get wet and have a wave to play with, Wittering will be blown out (probably) but it'll be okay as a learner wave for most of the weekend.
