Board Waxing

Last year I always had problems gripping my board (considering I basically learned how to surf on my own and was trying everything for the first time). So for this year I bought a Creatures Tail Grip with a kicker to improve my grip and I was just wondering in general, how much wax should you use on your board? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

It doesn't really matter how much, as long as it still grips good.

ya but keep in mind if you start putting lobs of the stuff on its gonna weigh you down. as long as it remains sorta tacky its good.

I put on a about 1/4 cake of wax (Sex wax or similar size cake) and then just scratch it up with a wax comb when it gets too smooth. I then don't have to wax the board again for weeks. It's still pretty light. I can't imagine the weight being an issue. I surf about 5 times a week on the same board too.

When I take all the wax off and roll it into a ball it's not that heavy.

It's handy to have a wax comb in your shorts pocket in case it gets too smooth when you are out there.

Or you can just use your fingernails.

I use an old credit card, cut one edge into pointed segments.

Ok thanks for all the feedback. I should be surfing by next weekend hopefully pray for some swell here in RI. I'm dyin to get out there, been months. Needed to buy the proper wetsuit first and didn't want to push my luck and go out in 30/40 degree weather yet, only surfed from end of August to early november of last year.
