Visitors wanting to park their vehicles at some beaches in Cornwall will have to pay £7 a day.
The new charges have been introduced by Restormel Borough Council at its council-run car parks.

The increase has provoked anger from local people, visitors, tourism leaders and businesses. Some have appealed to the council to reconsider the tariff.

But the council said in a statement that the charges had been introduced as a result of extensive consultation.

Hotelier John Fitter said he was horrified at the charges, which he feared could "kill off the golden goose of tourism".

Paying to park at the beach is an outrage full stop. Just come back from ireland where you can drive onto almost any beach and not pay a single penny. We defo get ripped off here in england with car parking.

I agree about having to pay to park, it's disgusting, especially £7.

I don't agree (in general, not to you KS!) with being able to drive onto beaches. It just seems to me to be completely un- environmentally friendly.

We have to pay to drive, and park on the beach. You can get a pass good for a year for $25, or pay $5 a day. They do that to get the tourist.

The only other beach on the east coast you can even drive on is Daytona Beach, and I'm pretty sure thay cut the driving area down to about 2 miles. We have a 12 mile area of beach we can drive on. There use to be a lot more till some idiot ran over two teen age girls laying in the sun.

Here in OC and LA counties, it ranges from 10-15 dollars a day to park. I bought a year pass for my local beach for $125. Oh, and then if you want to park an RV/Camper it goes up to $45 a day.
That's one of the good things about hawaii, you can always find free parking at the beach.

i found out about the £7 at easter.... watergate bay.... couldn't believe it. I let my feelings be known to them. I used to think £3.50 they charged las summer was bad enough

£7 is just daylight robbery... I don't get who decided that you can charge people that ridiculous amount :? I wont be going back there in a hurry, that's for sure.

No such thing in NZ as far as I know. In town you just park up, and outside of the cities, most beaches, you can just drive on to, if there's access. There would be a massive outcry if the councils here tried to do that.

It was always a shocker in Cornwall, but 7 quid is taking the piss. Especially if you want to drive round and check a few spots out first.

Noooo!!! That's one of my favorite places in SD. It's not as if the city is in need of the cash, they make tons on fees charged for all the surf schools, kayak rentals, etc.
