Surfing Waves

Anyone ever run into problems with dudes beach fishing. It's happened me a few times on some of the beaches I surf. U try to avoid them by moving along the beach but on a long beach in a low tide you catch a few waves take a few wipeouts and next thing u know ur facing them shouting at you to get the F**K out of their way. I've never actually seen them catch a fish and I dont know how far out their lines actually go out, any beach fishers enlighten me here. Seriously dude the surfs good, u're not catching any fish, I don't have a f**king clue where u fishing line is and I bet you don't either, go f**king dangle your stick off some rocks somewhere else. Sorry for the rant, anyone else encounter the same aggro...

People are always surf fishing around here. Seems the waves are always best right where they cast out too.

Late last year I went to one of my favorite spots. There were 4 dudes fishing. I didn't have much time before having to go to work, so I just chilled there a while. It wasn't long before one fishing dude pulled in a 5 foot Black Tip shark.

Yeah they catch stuff around here now, and then.

I fish, but not surf fish much, find it pretty.........un-fun.

We can only surf 500' within 2 jettys in the entire city, so its always packed, and you're not supposed to swim, fish, etc, it's just for surfers and core spongers.

But then people will come fish there, and nobody will stop them. If we're surfing outside the lines (and I mean like 10 or 20 feet, it happened to my friend) it's an automatic 200 dollar fine.

So I was surfing one day trying to come back in and dodging lines and hooks and weights, etc.

i havnt had a problem here, most of the fishermen go out off the rocks or pier, but depends on the break, sometimes there are fishermen but they usually leave or dont fish if there are surfers there

Annoying at Sandsend, is the technical term beach casting?

Seems a bit pointless to me, oh hang on maybe not, a bit like waiting for a set to roll in.

got into a right arguement with some fisherman on the southcoast last year when i was surfng a small reef.

the thing was the waves were only breaking there so it wasnt like i could move on, they started casting at me in the line up, so i bit through it. in the end they moved on but there was a lot of shouting

i'll bring a tiny pinknife in the water in my wettie or boardshorts. if you cast to close to me, you can say goodbye to your leader, line, hook and sinker. starting doing that after we were surfing last year and some guy was casting right by us, my friend ending up getting a hook in the foot by stepping on the guys line. not a pleasant experience. i have nothing against fishermen, i love fishing but have the decency to not cast where people are swimming or enjoying the water. i also believe that the ocean and waves are for everyone (longboarders, kayaks, canoes, swimmers, d*** draggers, ect) but by fishing by these guys your endangering their safety, and thats something im not alright with.

a few weeks ago an idiot was fishing right in the middle of the beach and i manged to get tangled in it

i was just kidding. id never cut anybodys line. im a complusive lier please forgive me. har har

They are a nuisance where I surf, too. Most of them aren't too much of a problem, but last fall one of them cast right out where I was bodyboarding and I got tangled in his line.

There are more surfcasters in the fall than any other season, and not coincidentally I'm sure, the beach is littered with cigarette butts during that time.

I also believe that the ocean and waves are for everyone, but not everyone has the manners or common decency to treat the ocean and other users of the ocean respectfully.

yeah definitely... we've got to compromise
