the surf has been pretty good in QLD lately, or so I've heard...
Should be good surf, but the wave period is a bit short.
Mind you, I'm no local expert either... In fact I'm only going by surf mag reports about kirra.

Went to Kirra. ended up swimming with sharks. Scared the crap outta me, so I went to Snapper!
