I think ozzies mean jellyfish when they say bluebottles???

In the UK bluebottles are just big flies that get on your nerves by sitting on a cow pat all day then buzzing over and sitting on your sandwiches. Yuck.

Man O War is what they are called in the US. In North Carolina we do get visits from them and hell yeah the stings are nasty. I could not imagine falling off and then to surface right underneath one.

OUCH!!! Yes Man-O-Wars are what we call them in the States. They hurt like Hell, and some people have really terrible reactions to them. A good friend of mine had to be taken to a Fire Station to recieve treatment for a horrible sting that went around his right arm, and across his chest. They poured Amonia on him, and the neutralized the venom enough for us to get him Home. Nasty critters that wash up around this time of year, and then tourist kids think they are balloons, and pick them up, and get stung. They can also be Pink in color.

I think the correct term is Portuguese Man O War, and we have them in Trinidad, and their sting is bad! They've got like a kerzillion tentacles which they use to paralyze their prey. You see them washed up on some of the beaches at home, and kids usually poke them with a stick to see if they can pop them.. good for em

yes man of war is the correct term but bluebottle is easier to say. Most people dont know what the correct name is in australia they just call them bluebottles.
