Average water temps in the UK

Hey Anglos,
Was wondering if someone would take the time to post what they figure are the average water temps around the British Isles during Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. I notice mostly Brits posting here, and I must say, I admire your dedication to the lifestyle of surfing. Consider it an open invitation to hook up if you ever get to the left coast of North America, San Diego area. I'd love to show you around and give you a taste of some of our finer breaks.

At the mo, the temp around Tynemouth Longsands is 9 degrees celsius, still boots and gloves weather. Mind you its always colder in the North of England

Off the top of my head this is my rough estimate

Winter - 8-9 deg c
Spring - 9-11 deg c
Summer 12-16 deg c
Autumn - 9-11 deg c

Laguna we normally get down to 6c in winter over on the East Coast, but as a rough guide thats about right.

Thats cold! lol. I think over here it only usually goes as cold as 7deg c in winter. I remember going out in Feb last year and I forgot my hood in my car. After one duckdive I got a killing ear ache and was brainfreezed for an hour. I had to race back to my car for my hood lol

The Atlantic (Westside) is deeper so doesn't get as cold in the Winter, but still has a bit of a chill in the Summer. Min 9c Max 16c.

The North Sea (Eastside) is shallower so has a much wider temperature range. It can drop to 5c in the Winter (though it's been realtively warm this winter at 9c). I've seen the wave bouy temps hit 19c, so must be in the 20's near shore. Thats boardies & rashy temp, easy.

Yeah I'd agree regarding the east coast temps. A guy I surfed with had a thermometer on his watch and it read 21C in mid summer.

Or decent waves full of lame surfers?

Not sure where you surf, but unless its big its always crowded.

It can be annoying but remember we all learnt somewhere.

so for someone used to more temperate temperatures, do you think a 4/3 mm full suit will be okay for surfing England / Norway in the summer...should be about the same water temp I figure?
