Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards

The big ceremony to hand out the awards is this Friday in my hometown.
It's just ironic that none of the big waves were even within 500 miles of this land locked city, home of Disney
. And the biggest ones were in South Africa, Tahiti, and Mexico. Two of the guys nominated are from Orange County though.
Now if only I could get in on the party.

Up for ride of the year
Greg & Rusty Long, from San Clemente, CA, USA: Rusty for his paddle in at Puerto Escondido, Mexico June 2, Greg for his tow in at Dungeons, South Africa on June 30 (up for biggest wave).
Doug Young of New Zealand at Teahupoo, Tahiti October 13th
Ken Collins of Santa Cruz, CA, USA at Puerto Escondido June 17th
Andrew Marr of South Africa at Dungeons on July 30 (up for biggest wave)
Manoa Drollet of French Polynesia at Teahupoo on July 28
There is an article in the OC register website is ocregister.com from april 11 that explains more, or the billabong website billabongxxl.com, as I am getting confused trying to decipher who is up for what award.
Three categories: ride of the year, biggest wave, and paddle-in. ROTY is worth $50,000 US, biggest wave and paddle in are worth $15,000.
