Surfing Waves

I'm living in London and want to go down to see ripcurl boardmasters this summer. Anyone knows how to get down to Newquay by train? Any tips on where to stay? Anyone wanna come?

You can get to Newquay by train, but it will be long and painful.

Alternatively, you can (believe it or not) FLY from Gatwick!!

It's not that expensive - probably about the same as the train!! - I'll check it out and post something!

Regarding where to stay it depends on what your budget is !

I always stay at the Espanade Hotel which is right beside Fistral beach !

I drive from the London area to Newquay, so I don't know! I'd probably try and check out the British Rail website. If you don't mind an 8hr journey I know that National Express does REALLY cheap coach tickets (but you can't take a surfboard with you).

Places to stay? Depends what you're looking for - location and price. There are plenty of campsites (I just stayed at one which turned out to be £3.60 per night!) hostels, B&Bs & Hotels (but you WILL need to book way in advance).

I stayed at a small surf lodge called Trewinda last year - it was REALLY nice and cost about £15 a night I think, including a good breakfast. There's St Christopher's Inn which is a hostel right in the centre of Newquay with great sea views that's about £8 a night (to share a dorm).

There's loads of websites with info on this sort of stuff... just google newquay accomodation.

I've just looked on the site and the 6th August to the 12th August on Air Southwest would cost you £25 each way!!

That's £50 to get there and back - I doubt you'd get a train for that little!!

Going down to portugal, ericeira now in may and hoping to convince some guys from there to come along as well.

there is a train called the surfers express i will look in to it in the morning for u it flys alll the way there without a stop

hate comps. bring out the worst side of surfers. how much bad sportsmanship do you see. people throwing their toys out of the pram, stroking each other out. especially on the WCT & WQS.

1 good thing about the boardmasters is that every kook from brighton to thurso is there watching, makes the other breaks super uncrowded. Surfed Chapel Porth 4ft clean on my lonesome a few years back whilst everone was queing to get into newquay

Yes, I am sure it may be so. But since I am now living in London, and haven't seen a single surfer in ages, the thought of being surrounded by lots of them is pretty appealing. Plus, Paolo Nutini is playing and he is too sweet to miss.
