Hey guys, ive been surfing for a few years now on my 7'6 minimal and 6'4 thruster and after returning to devon from a tour of europe i decided to have a go at longboarding.
i had a go on friends boards etc and got some advice from various surfshops in braunton and ended up buying a second-hand 9'6 gulfstream board (jules's old board), its got plenty of volume for me (im 6'4 and 13st) and its got a cool glassed on wooden d-fin i absolutely love it!

Took it out on saturday at saunton, the waves were pretty small but clean and had a really wicked time, loved the solid, cruisey feel of it and it despite the large fin found it turns easily, got a few steps towards the nose too!

Sunday was a bit bigger and i was a bit nervous about going out the back because it was crowded and the board doesnt have a lease plug yet so i just stayed in the shallows and caught the little waves, now back with jules so he can put in a leash plug!

I was having a little trouble with increasing speed, with my minimal or shortboard a few quick turns from side to side tends to increase the speed a fair bit to help getting passed closed out sections, this had no effect with he longboard, do you increase speed by moving closer to the nose??

Anyway i'm totally converted to longboarding,i think the slower, carving turns are far more suited to me and cant wait to get it back!!

Longboard speed = trim. The trim spot depends upon how it was shaped also the tail and fin. Generally, the mid-point is where the board will trim out, but noseriders are different. The more you surf it and move around the quicker you'll find that magic spot. Have fun.
