Surfing Waves

What sort of links are there between snowboarding and surfing? Do you think doing one helps your performance in the other?

I am tempted to have a go at snowboarding, it looks like a laugh. If i travel to NZ maybe i can get both in, surfin and snowboarding!!

Last year I had a go at snowboarding in Queenstown, and found it quite easy. I think that years of skating and then surfing obviously helped me. A friend told me the basics and then I messed around on the nursery slopes for 30 mins, then it was up on the ski lift. Sure I was no expert and I was still spending a fair amount of time on my butt - but I think it would be easy to get to quite a good standard if you had regular access to the slopes.
Snowboarding is great fun - give it a go if you have the chance.

When it snowed in the new year i took the trucks of my old skateboard and headed for some hills near me. It was a lot of fun but the board was very hard to control n i spent quite a lot of the time rolling head first down a snowy hill, n getting some weird looks from the kids in sledges. classic. i wish it snowed more in England.

I live in calgary alberta canada and I was wondering if snowboarding and skateboarding would help me with learning to surf... I really want to surf but im miles away from the ocean... I hate it here

I think anything that involves standing on a board will aid you in the long run, on yopur quest to be a surfer! However there are obvious limitations to it!

Best thing is to read up as much as you can on the subject, and start saving!! Once you got enough money [or are old enough] start doing just small trips to the nearest coast - and see if it really is what you want to do!

Until then, haven't you got some of the best mountainbiking trails and jumps in the world around Calgary? GO dirt jumping!!!! Or street riding, that will dampen your thirst for surfing at least for a while....

yea we do have a pretty rad mountain biking scene around here. I do bike but its the middle of winter right now so it sucks. But yea im going to hawaii next winter and im already looking into surf schools and lessons.

Ahhh im like totally jealous! Surfing in Hawaii, thats like a dream to most of us!!!!!!!!!
