Getting Back Into It!!!

Postby bgdkmetzger2003 » Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:27 pm

Last time I posted I was done with surfing for a while. It's been three months. I've been going to the gym a lot. But I realized something. Whats the point of doing something for fun, when you are not having fun? What is the point of working out to get big, when no one really give a xxxxx? I'm having a board shaped for me as Im writing this. It's going to be exactly what I want, and I plan on ripping it up in about two weeks. Hopefully the next time I post I'll be saying how great it is to be back out there in the water. I have a feeling I will be saying that.

sorry i think that girls do care if you are working out to get big, we do notice :P ,
but you should have fun, plus the more you work out the better you are when going out there, you have better control of what you are doing

Working out to build muscle shouldn'y hurt your Surfing. Unless you are trying to get Mr. Universe huge. I lift 3 days a week, and do Cardio 5-6 days. I am 38 years old, and if I didn't work out, I don't think I waould Surf as well, or as long as I do. I slowed down on Surfing for 10 years, only Sufred 2-5 times a year, to start a buisness. Now I have that buisness going good, and have been back in the Water as much as I can. But if you do want to lift to get huge, then it will affect your Surfing in a negative way, unless you are towing in on 70foot faces (then you should be L.H. big) .

Don't get too big, otherwise you end up being less mobile and a fair bit heavier which does affect your surfing.

Good job man, good to hear you're going back out.

I think lots of people kinda hit that plateau, you should be ripping it up now though :D

Who is shaping for you? What shape, dimensions?

O yeah, Im actually excited about that! I was in this shop of this guy that I usually go to for repairs and stuff. I saw a board that I really liked. So, we took a template of it. Then I just made some adjustments to it. I wanted the board to be wider about (21.5inch?) not sure but wider than normal for a 6'4. Then I wanted the tail to be rounded instead of squash. Then I wanted to adjust the rocker from 6.5 to just 5inches. Then we made it a little thicker also. I think it's going to be good for me.

Ahhhh yeah, gotta love the nervous anticipation of waitng for a board to be shaped. I know the feeling all too well, as I am having one shaped for me right now as well. I ahve a local shper from around me, in the Gulf of Mex. , Tommy daniels of NXTC shapes. His boards are heavily praised, and loved around here. I just got to get the art work out of my head and on to paper real soon LOL. Heading out the door right now to give him the down payment.
