Another vacation I have planned is to the goldcoast in April...

Anyways, I am a real pansy when it comes to water temperature and I just wanted to know what size wetsuit I am going to need for April?

www.coastalwatch.com will give you conditions, water temp etc.

You will probably get away with a pair of boardies in April but if you are, as you said, a pansy then you will only need a spring suit (3/2) or possibly even one of those wetsuit tops.

Sort of the same topic,

My and some friends are thinking of moving to Australia for a few months this summer. I might have a place on the Gold Coast to stay(pays to have rich friends that have "summer houses").

Anyways. Questions are, what is the job market like? I was thinking that the easiest job for me to get would be a bouncer(military, not a small guy by any standard), though something that gives me time to surf, and pays ok is what I would want.

Also, what is it like in the area? Like atmosphere, ect. I still have to confirm if I can get the place, either that, or I will ask to use their other summer home in NZ.

Are the breaks real busy? I know it is winter for them, but I am relativley new to surfing. I am not uncomfortable in a crowd, just would like less crowd so I can catch more.

There are heaps of surf spots on the gold coast. You should be able to find lots of beach breaks (the points can get busy and are aggressive at times) that are empty - especially during winter.

As for work - I dont know. I am sure you will find something in Surfers Paradise (as a bouncer) - just check the local paper or one of the career websites such as www.seek.com.au or www.careerone.com.au.

As said before, should be heaps of backpacker type jobs available...

As for wetsuit, you'll overheat. Don't even think about it. If you get cold, buy a $70 AUD thermal rash shirt, and that will give you all the warmth you need.

Do remember I am used to 30C water all year around

I've never really decided - how do you spell 'wuss'?

A bouncer at a club or something would probably be a good choice. It would probably free up you time in the morning to mid-day when a lot of other people would be a work...

Thats what I was thinking, plus I would be there in their winter, so people wouldnt be out as much because of more school/work. Also they probably would wuss out some days thinking it is cold....where the water there in the winter is warmer then our summer here.

I think you might need to be licenced as a doorman .... I suggest a bit of re search might help to avoid any pitfalls

Well I did live in Tweed heads (right by your home break, snapper) so I know the breaks really well (except for the new and already screwed superbank).

Just I never really ever wore a wetsuit..but I often saw heaps of people there with wetsuits. And as I am used to hot water I thought maybe it might be a good idea!
