Surf lessons - week 2

Today was a little rough. Instructor put me on a 10' foot this week (last week I was on a 9 footer), and for some reason, I know this goes against what I've been told, but I actually found this board more difficult - it was a lot of board, almost too much to handle.
Getting it through the surf was a bitch, especially considering today had less than desirable conditions -large choppy waves, storm surge and lots of wind. After today, I really think I got the perfect length board for myself - 8'6" epoxy board. Long enough to make it easy, but short enough to maneuver. Here it is in case you haven't seen it:

I pick it up Saturday!
I did learn one thing today though - I can paddle better than most beginners (surprising, because I have small arms compared to the rest of me), and got to the point where I can catch waves on my own without the aid of my instructor!
