Just found this site. Seems like a nice place, populated by people as nutty about surfing as I am!

My beach is Lyall Bay, Wellington NZ. Just looking around the threads, most of you guys seem to be from the States, couple from Wales, saw someone from Scotland (brrr) and Aussie and another kiwi. Kia ora!

Summertime time here but you wouldn't know it from the weather and the swells have been few and far between so far this summer. Got out today though, 4-5 ft slight onshore not too bad and hardly anyone there. Magic.

Anyway by way of introduction for those who have never experienced the joys of Lyall Bay, here's a vid I took last week. We'd just had a southerly storm through and I took the camera down to catch the mad bastards in action. When I got there, the onshore had dropped right away and it got kind of glassy. Even the sun came out for a bit. I almost went home again for my board, but decided to just take some shots instead

There's about 4 breaks in Lyall Bay. This one is The Corner.

Looks like under bigger swells it wedges a bit... does it?

Hey guys, thanks for the comments on the vid.

I'd forgotten about this - when I posted the thread in December the link caused the spam filter to drop it into quarantine.

Wedges?? You mean close out? The breaks further along the beach do tend to close out when it's bigger, depending on what the sand on the bottom is doing, but the Corner is actually pretty good
