Semi gun is a smaller version of the 'gun' which is a big wave board lie a 8' shortboard the semin bout 6'6"-7'0" and easiers to hadle as the gun is built for going in a straight line as fast as possible on a 70ft wave

I'm guessin its a shorter version of a gun but with the same characteristics and shape.

i know this guy who makes them in bideford (altalntic surfboards) and he says they can be used in big south west swells cause if u like lived in indo or hawaii youd get a gun for the bigger rare swells. when it gets even bigger than usual

a board im looking at has the dimensions 7ft, 19", 2.5". and im wondering if it is a semi-gun or fatboy flyer.

also as we dont get 70ft waves in Wales or at least not as ive noticed do you think it will work in average 4-5ft faces or am I going to be totally wasting my time?

Thats too thin to be a fatboy flyer, they're large and buoyant for big people and are easy to catch waves on.
If you're a good paddler you'll be fine, just not on anything less than like 3 foot.

Would a semi gun only have a pin tail or could they also have different tail shapes??

generally only pintails cause they are desinged to go fast lie the gunn but just for smaller waves cause gunns are like head high and above

Fatboy flier would be around 21" wide, and have a more rounded shape to it. That one doesnt look much fun...

All your info looks pretty straight, and yes, semi-guns are for smaller waves....compared to a gun (up to 11') which I would say start at double overhead.

I'd say semi-guns turn into guns about at 7'6". All are pin tails, due to their superior holding power.

Magic-Carpet you’re a great (young) character; talk it up a bit more mate... DO you enjoy fishing, if so I bet you have a few really great tails

yes, a semi gun is virtually a scaled down gun (more in terms of length) that is suited to fast steep faces as opposed to just big bloody waves. The last semi gun I had was a 6'5" (RIP: 03/01/2003 ) that was originally built for a mate to go to indo... good boards for pulling into a wave with a steep face giving a solid ride but enabling a bit more maneuverability then an actual gun (partly due to the reduction in length)... slugs on a flat waves but beleave this is more due to there exagerated rocker lines ie. nose lift quite noticable.

basically ive been riding a 7ft4 funboard for about a year now. Had major trouble popping up for months and months but was enlightened by a few peeps on here that I was going about it totally wrong, hands in totally wrong place etc.

Stuck at it and went out for a few hours every day for about a month and got popping up nailed. I can now catch a green wave on my funboard and pop up and am currently trying to nail bottom turning but I think Ive got it pretty much sussed ( I know WHAT to do, just need to perfect it!)

Getting outback on bigger days with this 7ft4 is murder, I can sink the nose but generally get worked every time I try to duckdive it, and by the time I get outback Im f*cked!. oh, and getting it home cos i live on the top floor of a block of halls of res and i have to go through FIVE firedoors

I also have a bic 6ft7 shortboard which i can catch green waves and just about stand up on. Am currently flogging this bic to make money towards a proper shortboard; so the plan is to keep riding my funboard and improving on that, whilst making an effort to learn how to shortboard. (and i want new toys )

Have spoken to the guy that owns this board: http://www.secondhandboards.com/search. ... ll&id=1515 and I'm quite liking it as it isnt *too* short and its quite thick to aid paddling etc.

I'm 5ft4 and weigh about 11.5 stone (and hopefully less by the time ive finished this diet)

I would say an egg shape would probably work for you pretty well. They're nice and wide and floaty, but are more manuverable, and definately duck diveable. They work well in small to, eh, chest? high waves.

You can get a center box and fcs outside plugs for maximum versitality.

The board for sale in the link might be a bit thick to duck dive properly, 3 3/8 is thicker than my 10' longboard. For my first shorter board, I had one shaped 6.10 X 20 X 2.5 It paddles really great, and duck dives most good.

yeah i was having a chat to northswell online and we decided it must be a typo and he means 2 3/8"

I'm gonna give him a ring later n find out
