hi there, i am designing a range of womens surfwear for my final collection and as you girls are my primary consumers, i would like to know what you really want from your clothes? just a few questions, you can cut and paste for your replies. the collection is for summer wear but not high tech garments i.e wetsuits but casual clothes for everything else!
1) do you specifically buy clothes from surfwear brands or do you mix and match from high street and other shops?
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you?
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
thanks, and just think the more replies, the more likely i can create a brand that you really want!!!

As this was directed towards the girls, I cant see the problem with that....
(Why am I here? Why am I even reading this? I think, perhaps, that my 2007 resolution to stop wasting time at work has been an unmitigated failure already)

I couldn't agree more on the clothing front
and DBBB i luckily never made any such silly resolutions, i only make ones i can keep, er which was zilch apart from giving my van a little more TLC this year.

1) do you specifically buy clothes from surfwear brands or do you mix and match from high street and other shops?
mix and match, outdoor/surf brands in general
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
Any outdoor brand which makes stylish and functional clothes and don't charge through the roof
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you?
5 - I'm not really that "into" clothes! (No S-Boy, Cheezee, DBBB etc, that doesn't mean I wander round naked half the time! But you can always dream, eh?!

)
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
Totally depends on the situation! If I'm working in the shop then something comfy (hoody and jeans!

), if I'm outdoors instructing then something suitable, functional, wind/waterproof etc
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
Not particularly, I wouldn't buy specifically for that, if it doesn't cost any more though why not?!
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
OK
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
The surfing ( and the after-surf!)

LOL! Sorry to disappoint! When I was at uni calling someone a rambler was about the worst insult you could come up with!

1) do you specifically buy clothes from surfwear brands or do you mix and match from high street and other shops?
Mix and match with very little surf brands actually. For garments so simple, they are too expensive.
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
From small local shops.
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you?
8.
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
To fit well, to be durable, and to not cost a fortune.
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
Only for certain clothes like rashguards or wetsuits, but no, not really.
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
Just enough but all too expensive.
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
The entire thing is appealing - finding spiritual one-ness with the ocean and my surroundings, being able to finally do a trick I've been practicing forever, the travelling, meeting all sorts of people from all over the world, or just simply hanging out with my friends.

Mix and match, surfwear is generally overpirced and very 'samey' to get something a bit different or special you have to move away from surf brands.
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
Small surf shops, online surf shops, fat Face, Joe Browns and when im in New Zealand from shops like Billabong and Quicksilver stores and shops like Amazon. Non surf shops in the Uk i use include Topshop, Primark, Zara, Mango, H&M, second hand shops, GAP, River Island, Miss Selfridge etc etc
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to ?
I do love clothes but im a student and im also trying to rein in the consumer beast in me. But i'd still say 7.
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
Comfy - soooo important, a little bit different, hardwearing (im great at putting holes in fabric thats supposed to be ripstop), stylish.
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
Depends, for stuff i'd actually where on the beach then yeh it cant hurt but for day to day clothes, not too bothered.
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
I think there is plenty of choice in terms of brand but if you look at what they are producing its the same old stuff with different labels.
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
The whole package.

mix and match
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
all over. i would always try them on before buying (so wont order on the net)
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you?
6
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
practical & stuff that doesn't shrink or loose shape
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
yes if it was beach wear
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
enough - but all too similar - would like a wider range of styles
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
whole package

1) do you specifically buy clothes from surfwear brands or do you mix and match from high street and other shops? Half and half probably. Most of my teeshirts are branded but thats cos I find they last longer than high street stuff (although saying that, dont think ive got one teeshirt that hasnt got atleast one hole in it!)
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands? Local shops (Surf Dive & Ski, Earth Wind & Water, Freedom, Axle)
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you? Depends on the time of day. 10 during day, 0 at night
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool? Practical, warm (at this time of year!!), longlasting (im too cheap to buy new stuff all the time)
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you? Not more than that
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok? Pretty much ok me thinks. Apart from there being too much pink stuff. I like pink, but I dont wanna walk around looking like a marshmallow
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals? Whole lot

Mix and match
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
Dont seem to find anything I like in local shops so bought a wardrobe full from shops in Aus - mainly Billabong. Bought a bit online but dont know where from.
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you? 4-5
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
Practical, warm and a comfy fit
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
for the same price? yeah sure
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
I guess they're OK - but seems a bit samey. Baby pink or baby blue. There is always much more range for guys within the brand lines tho.
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
Whole package

1) do you specifically buy clothes from surfwear brands or do you mix and match from high street and other shops?
I don't set out to buy clothes from any particular brands...just whatever looks a bit funky and interesting and 'me'! Ends up being mix and match I guess.
2) where do get your clothes from. Brands?
Ummm...animal, New Look, DPs, Fat Face, freespirit...I don't go shopping a lot really!
3) between 1 and 10 (10 being the highest) how important are clothes to you?
Important to keep me warm (I'm a wuss!) and cosy, and to stop the nakedness, obviuosly! I'd say 5.
4) what do want from your clothes? eg, pratical, room for movement, keeps you cool?
Warm, comfy, long-lasting - things piss me off if they wear out etc...
5) would factors like UV protection built into the fabric appeal to you?
In normal clothes?? No. Rashies etc, yes.
6) do you think there are enough brands for women surfers? too many, too little, or ok?
Wouldn't make much difference if there were more, as they'd be equally over-priced and impractical.
7) can you sum up surfing for you? is it the surfing or the lifestyle or the whole package that appeals?
The surf, the buzz, being outside, soulfulness
