Im So Cold Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Postby isaluteyou » Sat Dec 02, 2006 6:34 am

Okay iam moaning as i realise some of you are surfing in much much colder water than me but what can i say im delicate

Anyway the temps here have dropped somewhat to around 3-7'c (35-45f) when i go in the morning the water temp is around 15c or below so im realling feeling the bite. My 3/2mm is fine for the miday surf when the sun is out but im in at all awkward hours so when the sun goes down or at dawn my poor body can not hack it. Its mainly my chest that gets it from the biting wind. So im thinking about getting some layering any idea's? I am like practically broke all my money is going to a new board so anything over $65 i cannot really (well i might dive into the non existant savings  ) afford

Thanks

this isn't the best solution, but it's cheap and worked for me while diving before I got a drysuit...

go out to all the second hand stores in your area and find a wetsuit vest, that's a little too big when you try it on. Wear it outside your normal wetsuit and that way you get heaps more insulation where your body needs it most. Make sure it's a vest so you don't lose arm movement.

Also, get a hood. They're cheap and make a huge difference to your bodyheat.

hope this helps.

when i was diving i got a hood/vest, i think it's only 1 mm but i'm sure that it would make a difference. don't remember how much it was but couldn't have been too bad.

When you can afford it go to a 4/3 in the mean time get a hood. It will keep the rest of your body warm.

I have an excessive amount of hair (dreaded) so i look very very weird with a hoodie. Im not sure a 4/3 s really needed in socal but i wish i had one never the less probably something to add to the list.
