Scum

got my car broken into down langland today while i was surfing. Even tho my key was safely (or so i thought) locked up in a keysafe padlocked onto my bumper.

Came out of the sea to find the whole bottom trim of my front bumper had been ripped off, keysafe and all. Somehow theyd managed to open the keysafe, these are pretty sturdy things and im guessing they must have used a sledgehammer or a pickaxe or something to smash it open, fortuanatly (for me) in the process of doing that they had broken the key and so they must not have been able de-immobilise the car, although they had obvioulsy tried anyway as the drivers seat had been moved and the battery had run flat (presumably from them trying to start the immobilised car). Theyd obviously been planning to drive it somewhere before robbing the stuff in it cos they hadnt taken the stereo or anything, just the glovebox was open but i didnt take a phone or wallet with me anyway so there wasnt anything worth taking.

After some panicing and wondering what i was gonna do i decided to try taking the key apart and after quite a bit of fiddling i managed to get it just working enough to turn the immobiliser off and luckily i had some jump leads in the boot and after a bit of help from a local guys car battery i was off home.

cant help thinkin what i would have done if they had managed to drive it away tho, i would have been stuck at the beach in my wetsuit, a good 2 hour walk in the dark from my house and with no house keys to get in even when i got there.

As it is i guess i was lucky, but i still feel like getting the boys together to go sit in a van with a bunch of pickaxe handles in the car park waitin for em next time i surf that break.

Nightmare scenario dude.
You see the shites cruising when your about to go out but think your safe.
Count me in with pick axe handles, we could cruise down chav alley and slash their tyres in revenge.
No really gutted for you, these simpletons don't realise what it costs to replace stuff, they need a good clip around the ear with a long board.

Sorry to hear that. Would of thought langland car park, busy as it is + with all the construction going on down there, would put off any thieving little bastards :bang: .
How was the surf anyway? was gona go down earlier but I thought it would of been crapy conditions.

Scum!

I'm worried i'm going to be a victim of scum sooner or later. I don't have a car so I change and leave my gear on the beach. It's only my clothes since I keep my card and keys with me in my wettie but one of these days I reckon chavs will pinch 'em just cause the can (scum!!). Well, it's worth the risk to be able to surf.

Sorry to hear about your incident anyway fella ( I assume yer a bloke and soz if ur not). If you catch 'em break a finger on my behalf!

I dont drive either and if I havent gone down with a mate I try and leave my bag somewhere high up where you can see it from the water although this can be anoying scaning every 5 minutes for it, depending where you surf of course.

Dude, that sucks.

You were however pretty lucky; something the keysafe people don't tell you when they're convincing you to buy their product is that if a key is used in the theft of your car then your insurance company are within their rights to pay out squat. Different story if the keys are taken from your house (home insurance covers that) but when it comes to claiming on the car insurance following a theft "I attatched the key to my car" doesn't sit so well.

well they must have come prepared with something to smash it open with, makes you wonder seeing as tons of people have these keysafes outside their houses with their spare keys in, was talkin to a couple of other locals there who had recently been broken into as well, using scaffolding poles to break doors open and stuff, its definatly a planned thing rather than just some kids seeing an opportunity and taking it.

There wasnt much damage (apart from the broken key and bumper) so i didnt report it to the police, i doubt theyd be interested anyway, from all my previous experience of police contacting them would probably just be more hassle than its worth.

I got a mate who reckons he can find out who it was, so hopefully we'll be able to put a stop to at least some of them from trying to rip off surfers again.

i dunno, there wasnt any construction goin on, you thinkin of caswell car park?

i shouldve parked in the lane where the locals park but as it was pretty windy i parked in the spaces behind the beach huts for a bit of shelter, that was a bad idea, its pretty quiet behind there and that was probably how they had time to do it, oh well lesson learned i guess.

surf was good, but its the most crowded ive seen it on a weekday in a long time.

Wow, sorry to hear bout that GowerCharger. Thats pretty damn scummy. Thats why I dont surf Langland. It gets some quality surf but its always had a bad reputation for car breakings.

This picture of this weeks surf at langland shocked me

Aerial shots...always make waves seem bigger than they are.
Probably about head high.

yeah langland can get really good, even when everywhere else is blown out you can often find classic waves there. The only drawback is the crowds that it attracts, with being so close to town, having easy access and its reputation, its not unusual to see 3 or 4 people on each wave that comes through. I dont go near the place on weekends, its more hassle than its worth when its rammed.

No mate not thinking of caswell!! last time i was at langland in the week they had blocked off 1 of the car park entry's to do work and there were some guys there working near where they have knocked down a couple of those green huts, not sure what they are gona do there.
Yeah I normaly try and avoid langland on the weekends its hetic, dont realy go there that much beacuse of crowding.
Laguna...nice pick, if that was this week i reckon it was monday. Wish I went down there now, ended up going down caswell at low trying to surf big power close outs instead :x

I`ve had my van done too while surfing, screw driver through the lock. As i don`t take any valuables with me they had a wasted effort.
What they do is have someone watch the break while you surf, and when you leave the water they phone the ass hole doing your car over. :yearght:
