Postby RSibs17 » Wed Nov 08, 2006 4:07 am

Hey everyone, Im new to these forums, but I was hoping you all could help me out here. I am looking to get set up with the companies who organize surfing events all over the world. If you could shoot me some names of companies that you know of that I can get in contact with, I would greatly apprecaite it. Thank you.

What are you trying to do?

Billibong, Reef, ESA(Eastern Surfing Association{amature}), Rip Curl, Volcom, WCT(World Circuit Tour{Pro division}). Just to name a few.

Im trying to get a job setting up and organizing all of the surfing events that are held around the world. Now I know brands like you mentioned sponsor these type of events, but do they actually do the whole planning of them?

with the greatest respect dude .. i think you should go and sit down for a long time and think about what it is "exactly" that you would like to do ??!!!

You seem unsure about what you want to do and for who .. simply saying that i want to sort out global surfing events is not going to get you very far , other than laughed out of your local bank .

Come up with a definate business plan of what you want to do and with all the relevant figures and then ..maybe then .. and only then , will someone take your plan and give it some time .

To answer your question in short ...big brand names for the most part, hire companies or people with a proven track record in organising these things .. and then the work is broken down into chunks ..i.e photographers , marketing , PR , etc etc

If you are passionate about doing this then i would maybe think about organising a few local events and see how you get on  ..you may find that you change your mind after getting caught up in the stress of it all !!

Apologies if i sound harsh but in business its always better to get an honest response than a response that panders to what " you want to hear " 8) :D

Hello mate.

I'm at university at the moment studying events management, and to be honest, I very much doubt that there are specific companies that only deal with surfing events.

You will probably find, as is the case with most things, that it's all through partnership working between official bodies, sponsors and local authorities.

(sorry bout the edit, but even pissed it don't make sense... hehe)

ok, it might not be related to surfing, but anyway, here goes.

at the mo, I'm drivin round France for an adverstising capaign (spellling)

anyway... the people that employed me to do this were employed by another group who were employed by the company who is paying for this advertsing campaing.

basically... there are alot of people (and companies involved) and its alot of work, and alot of money that goes into events.. I was once like you. as in... 'it would be cool to take care of event or whatever' but, people are involved, and it ain't easy to just start up something..

but, for my job (handing out leaflets + drving, etx) at least, it makes money.... so that I can go surf :woot:

organising a big surf competition by yourself is ALOT of work.
you could maybe get a part if you have a degree in something usfull to this.
You will probably have to be associated with a company helping.
Arent their some companies that help organise any kind of event????
i would think a bunch of little parts (advertising, bathrooms, food, blablablal)
but maybe there is one small center that gets the right people. I dunno

hey everyone, thanks for your suggestions and replies. I will definately take things into consideration. And no, I am not planning on doing it all by myself, just to be part of the team who does it. Whether its working with sales on getting the business to come in, operations of actually setting up the tents and stuff at the beaches, at this point it doesnt matter. I am young and just graduated college with a degree in hospitality management, and I am looking to travel and have some fun for a couple years.

Try contacting the ASP to find out what companies they use for their events.
Since you're in Boston you may want to check out the ESA as well.
