Is becoming a shaper a bit drastic to get a cheap board?

Postby Mcleod_007 » Wed Jan 07, 2004 4:42 pm

hi ive been looking for my first board ive narrowed it down to a mini mal around 7'9". now ive taken an intrest in making it as ashaper said i could pullit off with good results from £150 half the price of me buyin a new one.

do u think this is a bit drastic making a board. when i dont even know the proper fundementals of a good board. ive got contacts for the matireals, some wicked tribal designs to put on them, an d all the measurements and plans to make a sound 7'9" mini mal

all opinions and views apritiated

if you get good at it you can save urself some money and make some by shaping for other people. Let me know how it turns out if you try it, you could get your first customer!

Shaping your own surfboard

It will cost you more than £150 to make a decent board if you have not shaped before - it is a skill that has to be learned. Once you get good it is a great way to get a cheap board.

I think it would be an excellent idea to learn shaping, like the others said it will save money in the long run but another skill is invaluable.
