Surfing with a cold?

Postby Adrenaline Fueled » Thu Oct 12, 2006 2:51 pm

Ok, I've had a cold all day at work, my nose is running, I'm sneezing like a loon, my throat tastes of poo... but my mate says there's a wave around! The absolute earliest I can get to it is 6:30pm. It's dark by 7:30pm...

What do I do?? It's the most difficult decision for me! Do I risk getting worse and ending up ill for a small short surf, or do I go and rip that wave up?
Normally I wouldn't hesitate, but I really feel like crud...

Deadline for the decision is 5:31pm, 11th October 2006, so get your answers in now!! Cheers (sniffle)

salinity healing (salt water). i've always been a firm believer that the ocean can cure almost anything. if nothing else, it will be good to get the blood flowing.

maybe you should have posted it yesterday then seein as how its the 12th?

dunno if you went but it might have done you good and an hour wont have done you much harm, and besides it might go flat for the weekend anyway.

so pretty much the same symptoms you would have after a surf in british waters anyway.

Surf!

Salt water clears out your 'tubes' and acts as an anticeptic against a sore throat etc. Getting your body going will make you feel better too.

Be warned though; plenty rest afterwards; your body is trying to fight it and being totally exhausted won't help.

Some people reckon the cold water makes their cold worse (chill effect).

I dunno, I'd have to be real crook to say no to anything 2'+ and glassy.

The salt water certainly clears out your head.

Tell that to the 39.4 million that have HIV/AIDS. ( http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/hiv?page=basics-00-04 )

Well.... I went for it. Had a great time, felt fine in the water. However, my colds ten times worse now. :D Thanks guys though, I'd have just sat at home feeling sorry for myself. As it was, I had a class time. Cheers, specially Fishkid and S Boy, you taught me a valuable lesson. Surf always comes first.... 8)

Nah, I was down Llangranog again. It was a nice wave, but very shallow. After a couple of seconds ride, I could just step off my board onto the sand  Couldn't make it for a dawny today, I tried though! Might try and make it tonight if there's anywhere nearby working...
