Scared..!

Oh my God...

I've been looking forward to the trips I'm doing with a friend to Cornwall and France this Summer for AAAAAGES (It's what's keeping me going thru exams!!), but the nearer it gets, the more nervous I'm getting! That sounds so stupid, I never thought I'd be scared of surfing! I spent ages doing it last Summer, and I was completely fine, but coz I am completely landlocked and too young to drive, I haven't been since - which equals major withdrawl symptoms, but now scaredness!!! (Is that even a word?!) I dunno what to do! I'm worried that if I'm nervous, I'll screw up and hurt myself or worse, someone else. I don't even know WHY I'm scared! Last summer was the first time I really tried surfing properly so I'm still pretty new to it - maybe that's something to do with it. Well, whatever it is, I need to get over it - just wondering if anyone else ever had this when they were starting out or if it's just me being weird?! Help!!

I doubt the waves are going to be at a level that would hurt you.......keep in mind if its that big when you fear for your life...as a beginner you wont even be able to paddle out.

if you take a bad fall on a big wave...stay still and let the wave throw you around...pretend your are doing something calming...the more you resist the wave the more oxygen you burn up

if people have takin 20ft plunges into razor sharp reef....and have came out okay...you have nothing to worry about

just enjoy yourself....

i know the feeling. this summer im going to devon and staying with relatives for 5 weeks but ill be surfing alone (as alone as you can be at saunton beach in the height of summer) and as its getting closer im getting more nervous, which is silly i know. i also live far inland and havent surfed since new years properly so im soooo excited i think i might burst.

yuh. i am going to be at saunton mainly though because i cant get my board to croyde or anywhere else because you cant take them on buses.

Cheers guys, that helps! I honestly can't put my finger on why I'm scared, it's just a weird feeling! I'm sure I'll get over it - like you said Babyboarder, I'm sooooooo excited!

As for France, my mate's organising it and won't tell me where we're going! But if she knows there's the possibility of hooking up with other surfers, she might just let me in on the big secret! it could well be around Bearritz as we like it down there anyway! i'll get back to you on that one - it would be good!
