I have lost m,y drivers licence for a long time due to my own stupidity. Anyway Ill cut to the chase , I have realised how much freedom I have lost. I live away from the coast so I could drive there within 45 mins and be at a relatively less crowded spot. After losing licence I am now forced to take bus and train to either bondi or cronulla which is about 2 hour journey with 25 minute walk to the beach from train station. After luggin my 7'6 minimal (which barely managed to fit on the bus) and i think i seperated my shoulders carrying it on the 20 minute walk from station I got 2 hours water time in at bondi beac h(most crowded spot in nsw) on saturday 5 hours travel = 2 hours surf, I love it so much the pain was worth it but now i am seriously thinking about gettin a short board just to make the traveling a bit easier. Does anyone have to go through similar xxxxx just to get to a beach ?

Everyone shut up :evil: I have a 1 hour drive to the ferry. 2 hour ferry ride(60$ one way) and then a 4 hour drive to the beach where you almost have to camp unless you want to get towed. Total cost there and back is around 400$ including food(for a weekened). What have I done to deserve this, I shoulda never gone surfing because the bug has eaten me alive. :cry:

just get a bicycle and make a surfboad rack for it. Dont buy the 100 dollar ones just make one outta wood and put towels or foam around it. Itl be a 5 minute ride to the reef

Depending on which beach I go to, its either a 5 minute drive and however far down to the water, or a 15 minute drive and how ever far down to the water :D Summer holidays suck though - all the tourists pack the roads and beaches up so the 5 minute drive becomes a 25 minute drive, and the 15 minute drive can take anything up to an hour and a half

haha classic! ive been through your pain...before i got my license, my girlfriend always insisted on going to bloody bondi beach to surf, and I live near Manly (in other words the opposite side of the city) and I would have to take public transport...

If you live out west, id reccomend this;
Take a train or bus to the city, then change at town hall, take the eastern suburbs train line to bondi junction, then hop on a bus in the bondi Junction bus depot to the beach.

with your board, Id reccommend getting a board bag, or board sock, otherwise your board is gonna get scratched. Also, never forget your iPod...it helps so much, get a video Ipod, and watch movies on the bus! However, if your going to take an ipod, make sure you bring a glad zip-lock back to keep it away from the nasties on the beach.

Thanks for input pplz , Im gettin a shortboard next week my NSP"S still for sale in the classifieds section but if no1 buys it im trading it in on my shortboard, I have got over the fury of the public transport , I mean I can still surf thats the main thing.

My advice to any1 who surfs at bondi, take advantage of the lockers they have at the main beach pavillion to store valuables if u dotn have any friends there to watch ur stuff, they are cheap too I paid $3 for 2 hours - you get to enter in ur own 4 digit pin so there no key to loose in the surf or beach.

After watchin every episode of bondi lifeguards and seeing so many tourists loose everything to local thieves who prey on loners who leave there valuables unattended I wasnt takin anychances,. At the enmd of the day surfing has become much more of a big effort for me now but its all worth it nothing can keep me balanced like surfing its the source.
