tying a good knot

Hey y'all

It emerges, that I cannot tie a good knot.

OK, long(ish) story coming, please bear with me!!..

Well, Tim's board had a load of dings in the tail, and that was because his leash was tied on with a bit of windsurfing rope and the rope was tied too loose, so that the railsaver wasn't doing its job at all, and the rope was acting like a bit of cheesewire cutting up the board!

Anyway, I took that rope off and threw it away...then I wanted to go and surf on the board so I took the rope off one of my minimals and put it on the shortboard, so the shortboard is fine now and has a leash.

My 7'2 then didn't have some rope, so I was able to blag a bit for free, and I put my leash back on that board. Anyway since I been surfing that, EVERY TIME! EVERY TIME!! The knot comes undone, and I gotta go and retrieve my stupid board, at least once a session!! ANd I feel awful as well because I know everyone is thinking, 'what a retard'.

Anyway I got a headache so I'm really waffling, but I accosted a random guy today and asked him to knot my leash up for me, which he very kindly did, but how do you guys tie the knots? Double knot, reef knot? I don't know how to do a reef knot anyway. YTim, you should be able to help me here, seeing as you're a sailor and must tie knots and climb up rigging and stuff....?

Sorry this is such a sense less post. If you've skipped the above, all I wanna know is how to tie a knot.

this is the way i tie mine :D it might not be 'right' but it seems to work and i havent lost my board yet (heaven forbid)

get a piece of string :D grab boh loose ends and do a bog standard 'overhand' knot and pull it mega tight.

loop it through the leash plug and pull it through itself so the knotted bit is at the sort of.. end :? which is away from the board.

put the velcroey bit of the leash through the loop and secure it so the knot is inside the bit of leash.

that probably doesnt even make sense but i know what im on about

loop it thro the board plug..

have an end in both hands.

Left over right...

Then right over left....

Pull...

It'll only get tighter the more you pull if you've done it propperly.
(and you can do this eather way... rightover left then left over right does the same thing.

here a annimation.--> http://www.tollesburysc.co.uk/Knots/Reef.htm

It will help if the string is wet when you tie it too.

My last 3 boards dont have a leash plug, insted they have a hole through the fin box, and out the top.

OK, so it seems I don't know how long to tie my knots, etc but I do know how to tie knots.... yeah, I tie knots and climb rigging all the time!!! In fact they call me the rigging climbing knot tying spider monkey of Trinidad. I once climbed the climbing frame over at watershed park while tying a running bowline in Tony the Frog's pants because he spat on Chelsi's shoes. After I tied that running bowline in his pants, I then climbed across to the television studio to star in my own show "Spider Monkey Climbing Show" It was an instant hit, and I became an overnight sensation. The I started taking drugs and turned to alcohol and prostitutes. I went from hero to zero, and I was hated by all! Even pimps spat on me for the bad example I showed their kids. Then I wrote a book on my exploits and made a bit of money. I still have the occasional joint, and dabble in the occult, but not as badly as I used to. I'm now married to a transgendered ex Shaolin monk called George and we have two kids, Jose and Fifi.
