As long as you can stay on the wave, you need to get your boat driver to go at just the right speed though. It's quite unerving as you're really close to the propeller and the back of the boat!
He's a link to some video footage of us giving it a go a couple of years back:

i only lasted about 30 seconds, but it was only my first time, as long as there is a wave, you can ride it.
kitesurfer, i would not surf with a boat that has an I/O, malibu is a wakeboarding boat, this is an inboard engine, the prop is under the boat not behind it. do not do this with an outdrive boat!

Funny you mentioned this, because I recently went wakeboarding behind a boat with my sister's surfboard. It was a bic 6'7" and the boat did have an outboard, so it was quite unnerving, but it was loads of fun. Although I was being towed, it was quite like surfing in the way that you go up on the wake (bottom turn) and then come back down (top turn) and sometimes try a jump (which I still can't get cause I keep freaking out cause I'm not attached to the board)

bah, I used to do loads of stuff behind a boat with outboard..... hahaha when I was younger, when I didn't have a board, my cousin and I used to drag each other in the water on a rope behind the boat! As long as you know what you're doin, it's not that bad... problem is when someone you don't trust is towing you... that's when it gets kinda scary!

Surely as your in the navy tim, can't you get the captain to tow you behind a frigate it's bound to have a good wake!!!

I do it somewhat frequently...but I need a bigger wake. What I've got puts up crap wake.

So we usually have the tow rope.
