Im completely surfer illeterate and other than a cutback i have no idea what surfing moves are called.

Anyway i was out today and and floating around the line-up when i saw a fairly decent set coming in i paddled hard bt popped up a little too early and i stood at the very top of the wave i leant forward slightly just as the wave broke and ended up riding on the top of the foamie the leant forward some more and slid off the top getting a little speed rush. Someone mumbled something about some move but oh i forget what. Was that actually a move or was it just bad timing. was kinda fun though.

Oh ya i preformed my first cutback today YAY :D  8)

I don't think its a move. It definitely isnt a floater, just getting up abit late and being held up at the peak of the wave, then being chucked forward isn't a move. Still, its pretty fun. :)

not a floater but if you where late dropping in and the wave was steep you might have got a bit of an air drop, but probably your mate was just commenting about the late drop in.

How do you do a cutback with a 7"4 board. I rarely get to surf and is there anyway to practice?

A cutback is just turning 180 back towards the breaking part of the wave. It doesn't have to be a slashing cutback or spray off the lip. I can cutback on my 8'6", though it's much more of a casual turn, unless I have a real good head of steam going (chest high and above).
