My wax has gotten really dirty with sand and ive decided to take it all off and put a whole new coat on. So i was just wonderin whats the best way of taking off wax from a board?

Leave it in the sun for half an hour so the wax melts, or if it's not sunny use a hairdryer, and then scrape it off with the flat side of a wax comb or use an old telephone card or old bank card............easy

oh man i hate waxing takes for ever, but it has to be done!

Yep - the sun works wonders. I usually set mine up on a couple saw horses, or a couple of chairs.

Have a box or a garbage bag for the scraped wax - it'll get all over otherwise.

This is what I did to clean up my board, and it worked really well.

Take your board out onto your garden and leave it in the sun for about half hour, if its not sunny then get a big bowl of fairly hot water (not boiling hot) and pour it over your board. Then use an old credit card ( I find credit cards are better than most wax combs, more flexible ) and run the card thru the wax, it should come off no problem.

Then when your done, and most of the wax is off..you should still see that the board is dirty. Get an old rag and a bottle of white spirits (like paint stripper) and wet part of the rag in the spirits and wipe over your board. It removes all the dirt and your board will look brand new when finished.

So paint stripper helps clean the board as well? What about just using a another house hold product to wipe off the remaining wax and to make it look like new?

I do the whole sit in the sun for a few minutes and scrape it off thing.

Then I'll just use an old rag or paper towels to get the remaining residue off the board. It works fine for me. No chemicals needed...

After scrapping off what I can, I use flour, and an old cotton rag to wipe the rest off.

i just sit out on my porch and use a wax comb to scrape it, i can get it pretty much all off, never seen the need for using alcohol or anything to get it completely clean.

I actually enjoy removing my old wax and building up a nice new layer of bumps

Same here - can be a relaxing half hour.

You never know what chemical might react poorly with the glassing (or epoxy, depending on your board). I'd prefer to keep it natural. Paint thinner can be kinda harsh - you never know if it's eating away a bit each time, or breaking it down at all.

I usually leave my board out in the sun for a bit...then i scrape it off with a surf comb or a spatula it works rlly well GOOD LUCK!!

oh a good tip for the winter, befor it starts getting realy cold, rewax your board because taking wax off in the winter is hard, so during the winter just keep on adding wax on top of the wax until summer hits then clean it.

I place my board on my foot stall then reposition the arm chair so that the board is positioned in front of the sofa i can sit so that I can watch tv then take my time with a credit card and a beer/smoke, but this is not advisable if you have carpets or a non leather sofa.
