Make a bet with him.... tell him he should come and try it... if he likes it, he has to pay for all surf lessons until you need them no more... and if he doens't like it... well, he won't not like it!!!

Well...........there's nothing else you can do, but run away from home.
It's your only option

what objections does he have to it exactly?
if its safety then most surf schools are right on top of that, having learners drown is not good for their business.
If he thinks youll drop out and turn into a surf bum, then he's probably right, but if you dont surf youll probably only drop out anyway and turn into some other kind of bum, at least surf bums are fit and healthy.
i dunno what other kind of objections he could have apart from not being bothered to take you to the beach in which case you'll have to just arrange it some other way.

Perhaps you should be using this as a reason to let you go - tell him that you need to know about surfing safely, rips and other water dangers which is all stuff they will teach you on the day.
Surely your Dad will not have a problem with looking after his own child!!

i think hes against it just because we'll have to drive like 40mins just to get there and we have no time left n stuff like that. oh and he's complaining about the fact there might be no waves. but there always is at scarbourogh and i've proved it to him with magic sea weed............
........but there is still hope........
........me and my mum have hatched a plan........

Ah yes the lazy I dont feel like driving dad syndrome. I have to convince my dad to drive me 4 hours to look at a surfboard. 40 mins by car, any estimates on how long that would take on bike???

40 mins!!! Thats nothing!!! I have to get a plane or a long train ride if I were to surf...
Tell your dad to read this post: 'You lazy git... go and take your son/daughter to the beach!! Support him/her in something that he/she likes! you never know, he/she might become a pro, and they live a better life than even the best of bankers!! Even if he/she doesn't, at least he/she will know that he/she has the support of their dad in life.
