basicly what shape does what, like if it had a big base and a small tip, or if it had the wame width through out, how these things would change the performace and noesriding ability

A big base gives you stability. A big tip helps hold onto the wave.

So, if you take a wingnut cut-out for example - the base is cut away, increasing your side to side manuverability. But it also has a big knob on the tip, which helps it hold onto the wave (your noseriding ability).

A big base that tapers away into a longer, thinner tip may not hold as well as a traditional fat boy, but it also should give more thrust/speed.

Nose riding fins have wide cords at the base so that when your on the nose and more the tail is out of the water the fin still gives alot of lift as it still has a good amount of lift producing area in the water. Whereas a taper performance fin will be slipping out more.
