i had a session this afternoon, for about 2 hours, and now my arms (i.e. forearms, and biceps) are tired, and it feels weak to hold a fist in both my hands. i'm curious if this means i'm close to having decent pop-up technique? i thought my shoulders were supposed to get tired, but they aren't.
what aches/soreness do you guys normally feel after a good session?

Maybe to try and strengthen your quads start doing sets of Squats, you can do then with or without weights. Really stopped my legs from getting cramp in that part.
Bluenowscone2000 - by lower legs are you meaning your calf muscles below the back of your knee? I found running and stretching has helped me in that department.
The biggest help I've had is from the 'Fit to Surf' book, although i'm still a rank amateur it has helped keep my fitness at a higher level.

yh the back of my knee, well i sometimes do a few stretches and run down to the beach, but where i surf the sea is 10 seconds from when you get onto the beach, so you cant realy run, normaly i just go in and stretch my leg.

The cramps can also be caused from dehydration. For long sessions try taking a break and drinking some water.

well in these warm days of shortie wetsuits i get a bruise on my knee from lazy-duckdiving, and usually a few other bruises from nasty wipeouts when i get clouted by my board.

Yup good book. For cramps try Calcium pills or milk after a hard session and drink lots of water. I was told this and it worked wonders. I also do squats now and wall sits from fit to surf ,it has a really well done home workout you can do infront of your computer!

Yep same here, but from frantic 'leg kick assist' paddling tho!
