jellyfish on the english waters (the deadly kind)

if anyone got the independent they might of seen the article on jelly fish,
there has been swarms of moon and barrel jellyfish near the welsh coast.
I know this dosent really need making a topic for but just a heads up really, also places like france spain Italy America etc have had thousands maybe millions of deadly jellyfish on the shores, as in 10 per sqaure metre
! I'm abit worried my g/f is off to Italy next week, anyone else going anyway in europe near the coast?

A couple of years ago my local beach had 47 portugese man of war washed up on it. Not sure if they're considered deadly but very painfull none the less. But us lucky peeps in the uk are never going to win any discusion about whose got the deadlest sea creatures argument when dealing in a world wide forum.

surfing last week it was horrible you would be paddling out and put your hand on them, then xxxxx your self and pull it away fast as you could

The moon jellies are harmless... we tend to throw them at each other....
anyway this north wind has blown anthing that has drifted up back down again. That'll be it for the rest of the year not in terms of the nastyer ones :)

those brown ones sting i put my had in a bit of one that was floating around wasnt that painfull just uncomfortable

Nah mate. Here in Australia I get stung by those buggers every summer. They hurt but that's about it. Some people have trouble breathing, others get painful muscles all over, I'm lucky I only get a burning sensation which lasts about 45 minutes.
The are called bluebottles over here but I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get killed by them. There isn't a serious surfer here who doesn't get stung regularly by them in the summer.

Those small box jellies down aroung Great Barrier Reef in Aussieland are the ones that I've heard are the most dangerous in the world. Also called the sea wasp. I don't have to worry about them where I surf in the US. We also throw jellies around with our bare hands and never get stung.
