Surfing Waves

Hey all how's it going

i have always been into the whole surfing scene but never have tested the water

ive just come back off holiday from tennerife most days i would be watching people ride the waves, not huge but i just wanted to get in their and have a go

So now that i am back im determined to teach my self how to surf !!! or would you recommend getting lessons ???

i live on the south coast near Bournmouth/Brighton so these will hopefully be my local places to go anyone tried these beaches ???

im not to sure as which board i should get any ideas or should i speak to some specialists ?? im bout 5ft10 !! so bit of a short ass !!!

also what other equipment should i buy or will this come already with the board ???

theres a whole LOAD of what board to get/what to wear/how to get started threads just do a search or go through the SW main site.

Glad you're wanting to get out and have some fun best way to start is to go to a surf school - as long as they are BSA approved (british surf assoc - i think) then they should be pretty good.

once you buy a board, it might come with fins; but generally everything is sold separately

Prepare to spend copious amounts of cash on stuff that you don't really need

Just go for one lesson (never had one myself) You will from what im told learn everything you need to know. Such as wave etiquete. Paddling. Popping up etc etc. Then go all out on your own and ask about if you need help better than spending a fortune on lessons

isaluteyou - yeah i was thinking that i shouold only have maybe 1/2 lessons then venture out on my own :):)

oh and dont need to worry about spending loadsa money on things i dont need as my other interest is cars and i have spent loads on this which i didnt need to !!!!!!

Try doing that. Get a lesson and see how it goes. Its quite common to have a 2hr lesson in the morning and then practice on your own in the afternoon (I had one of these). Its really good to have a surf lesson because its cruical to know the rules and safety to surfing.

Cool i will give BSA a ring during the week to find out the closest place they teach:):) i will keep you informed of my experiences :)

Theres some shapers who dont supply fins - I think, actually I dunno.

Both my boards came with fins so I'm happy either way as dodgy as that sounds
