i have no idea how cold that is cos we don't have fahrenheit in nz, but if you've got booties and a hoodie and a good steamer (4/3 or thicker) then you should be sweet. if you've only got a 3/2 you might have probs. check the inside of your wettie, it'll say how thick it is.

47 faranhiet is about 8-9 degrees C

In those temps youll need 5-4 minimum boots, gloves and a hood

Anything less and you wont enjoy it much or be able to stay out that long

did we READ the original post ??

His parents WONT LET HIM GO COS IT'S TOO COLD, in other words, he's really young or in his early teens.
Young people have faster metabolisms & have a far higher tolerance to cold than older people. A 3/2mm wetsuit in mid winter with booties is fine for a teenager...wherever they live, I survived for years in this exact temperature range with that exact wetsuit & bootie combination. Although he'll only last about 1 hour max in the water.

The only qualifer I make is be sensible & careful. Don't surf alone in water this cold. Things can go badly wrong REAL quick.

thnx

As kieran says in this post - You will need a warmer suit than a 3/2 to be warm.

If you ever watched Endless Summer II they have two guys surfing in Alaska in winter. Now that's cold. I would take the advise not to surf alone in extreme cold weather.
