I just remembered a very interesting article I read about in the Daytona Beach News Journal. It concerned a group of mothers in Daytona that go surfing after dropping their children off at school. paddling out there to relieve stress and forget about the hectic pace of modern life.
What triggered this memory was talking to a couple folks at my local surf shop before I rented my first surfboard and hit the waves yesterday. One of them had grown up around the time that surfer meant an exclusively juvenile pursuit. I thought to myself, surfing certainly has changed over the years, insomuch that it isn't seen as a purely adolscent pursuit.
Though I am most certainly a 22-year old man, I found the article to be of interest because I'm also a budding soul surfer. After that first trip yesterday, despite a sunburn and the need of a rashguard, I believe I was hooked and thus could relate to the article.
I was wondering if anyone has any comments on the fact that surfing has now turned into an everyman (or woman as the case applies) type of sport.[/quote]
