Bodysurfing

I've been getting into a little bodysurfing lately. I went out at windansea today because it was smaller. Despite the many surfers I still managed to catch some waves. It was actually really fun. There are a lot of upsides.....you can get out of the way of people much easier (just dive under). You can get out of a closeout easier too.
Anyone share my fondness for bodysurfing?

When I was very young, I used to bodysurf every time I went to the beach.... really good cause you can do it even when it's closing out.. although I wouldn't suggest doing it when it's big, cause I thought I broke my back once!! It's good fun when you don't have a board.... and it makes it so much easier to get out back when you don't have a board with you!!!

bodysurfing is great once you get the feel for where you need to be to cath the waves. Its also a major cause of most spinal injuries in some parts of austrailia
The only drawback is you get hassled at some beaches by the lifeguards if you dont have a board and arent in the designated swimming area. beach nazis.

Do you need a special suit?

I've never done it seriously but its always amusing to try to do it after you've had your board ripped out from under you ;)

funny that i have actually bodysurfed at windansea.
Bodysurfing can be fun its like a million times easier to duck dive and dodge the surfers. I tend to get a little bored after a while though not quite the same rush as surfing/spounging. Although its good fun to take a death plunge
