Surfing Waves

I was wondering how do you read this type of stuff since I want to learn. I hate going to the beach and the waves suck since I dont really know, only by looking at wave heights for that day. Could someone give me some good sites to look at some since I only know about SNN.

I surf in Hawaii and need help finding where to go since parents are to lazy to take me anywhere.

So should I just try to learn it off the site given by Phil? I'm pretty new to that stuff but I'll keep on reading it so I'll know which side of the island will have the best waves.

By the way I need help understanding the different wave directions such as onshore and stuff since not sure what that means. Is there a site or can someone explain to me the different wind direction names .

right that is basicly the wind if the wind is coming onshore (from sea to shore)it will make the waves messe and if is is cross shore (as it says) it will be abit messe but rideble and the best one of all offshore (when the wind is coming of the shore to the see) this holds the waves up and give u a nice clean wave i.e a tube and a nice face

if you check the drop down box in the top left corner of that site you can select hawaii to give you the local conditions of where you are then use the infomation from the site to predict the surf, if you read through the how to forcast sections its all pretty easy to follow and understand

Ooo ok so just remember offshore is the best type of winds I should look for ?

Aye use the basic guides ong MSW and then refer to the Pacific swell models. ITs all seclectable by region and country from the drop down menus.
