Hey Beginning Surfers...

Postby FormosanSurfer » Sun Jul 16, 2006 9:25 am

I know you are excited about surfing, as you should be, its an awesome sport. However, before you decide to come to www.surfing-waves.com and post a "I am a beginning surfer blah blah blah" thread, please take 5 seconds to see if someone has posted the EXACT SAME THREAD. Or, please take a second to look at the Surfing Lessons Page

Thanks,

Someone who gets tired of seeing 500 "I am a beginner" posts a day

Tas,

He's not having a go at you personally - just pointing out that almost all the information you could possibly want as a newbie is already on the site, either within the 'lessons for beginners' section or in a previous thread.

All newbies (to the waves, or to the site) should have a look around so that they're not posting questions we've already answered a 1000 times. Its only polite.

Welcome to the site, by the way.

:D

It's not personal mate, just telling you - and all the beginners - to take a few minutes to look before you post. I bet you the question you have has already been answered :)

Hey Tas and welcome to the site,

There have been heaps of posts on ways of getting past the whitewater, whether duck diving, turtle rolling or just pushing through, if you have a good search you should come up with some advice.

As for rip currents and/ or drifting there have been heaps of posts on that too, again have a real good search and then get back to us if your still not sure.

As for feeling like your getting in peoples way, check on the site to refresh yourself on wave priorities, so that when you are out there you KNOW who has priority. If you reckon your in the right and your still worried then just force yourself to stand your ground. As long as your following the rules, using common sense and showing respect then you have as much right as anyone else to be out there.

What exactly worries you about the white water Tas? If you are surfing a sandy beach, I wouldn't worry too much. Just charge into the white, its not that bad :)

Remember to push hard so that you dive deep if you ride a shortboard. Also make sure you are riding the right size board.
