Surf Fitness!

Postby FishKid Wales » Sat Jul 15, 2006 4:12 pm

Allreet Girls and boysis I would like to start a thread which hopefully Mr SP might want to turn into a sticky, so everybody can outline what they do OUT OF THE SEA to improve their surf fitness 8)
I know everybody's going to say swim-swim-swim, but has anybody got anything they do in the comfort of their home/garden/office or gym?

To start the ball rolling: I do press ups with both hands on my Indo-board to improve popups as well as burpees (burpees=a pop up on dry land)

Other than that im a lazy beer swilling pie eater with the lung capacity of a 3 year old child! who has aspirations of becomeing a new Mr Motivator of the surfing world

The gym because its the only thing i can really make myself do everyday when i'm at uni, trying to get into running at the moment too although i'm not very good at it but EVENTUALLY want to get up to about 20km but i'm thinking in the time frame of years  .

I also bought one of those gym-ball things recently and its awsome for pressups, stomach crunhes and all kinds of crazy stretching. I did some yoga last semester and i have to say i am soo unflexible so at some point i'd like to really get in to that as i think it would make the world of difference.

I'm really bad as well, i know i should be practising popping up every day but i never seem to get round to it.

Oh and at the moment cos i'm at home, walking my lovely pooch Midge :)

Good thread....em I used to be quite heavily into my fitness because i used to compete for my county in biathlons and long distance running...so there was alot of swimming and running training involved, it all got a bit to much and i recently quit.

I still try and go running every morning or least every other day, because i dont want to loose the fitness i already have...but im getting lazy so i dont go out half as much as i should!

So basically i swim and run as much as i can and i do a bit of yoga on the side...

and of course i practice the old pop ups on my floor!

I saw something the other day which i thought would be killer practice for pop ups....

......there was a guy on a 5 ft longboard skateboard, really wide and he was lying on the board doing a paddeling like motion to push the board along and then popping up like you would on a surf board and then riding the longboard like usual, i thought that would be pretty good to practice the old pop up

This is my regime...........except no sex!!!

And no cigarettes!!!

I also look at myself in the mirror and say "I've got to get fit" every day.

That usually works!

I tried to give up smoking, but CHEEZEE AND KITESURFER were smoking at the last forum meet, and made me remember how much I like to smoke when I drink.... otherwise, I windsurf, swim (mainly when I'm windsurfing hehe) and occasionally go for a run or go on the rowing machine, but I think that actually surfing is the best fitness for me.

Just lower your carb intake. (i.e bread, potatoes, pasta etc) DON'T cut it out completely, like those Atkin's fools your body needs carbs. (Hence people following Atkins religeously, dying)

It's the carbs that add the weight.
