Surfing Waves

I was wondering if anyone has this skateboard!!? http://www.skatesonhaight.com/Op-Longboards-Fish-Out-of-Water-p/opfoow.htm. It looks awesome but pricy I am tempted to buy it to start practing more on land when my parents cant take me . If anyone has it give me a review on durability and how it performes sinces a mini surfboard on wheels.

it says its made out of a standard blank and therefore it will be just as fragile as a surfboard. if i was you i would get a standard wood board as at somepoint you are going to come off it and it will most likely continue down the road without you until it hits something. with a wood board it will usually only get scuffed or a little delam whereas i think a fiberglass board will just be destroyed. i dont know how the trucks have been attached either this will be a real weakness on fibreglass boards unless they have some reinforcement built in.

i would strongly suggest you get a standard longboard like the sector nine one in your other post. the fibreglass one looks way to fragile

Ya thats the only problem about the board probably gets chipped and beat up easly . I would like to try it though since the trucks move differently on a regular longboard. I guess I'll just look for a longboard on sector9 site. Does anyone have this Op Fish Out of Water board?

ive not ridden their boards before but i have ridden a wide range of boards and used to compete.
what are you mainly looking for in the board, is it just to practice on when you are not surfing. what sort of riding are you planning on doing on it, are you wanting a board you can go as fast as you can down a hill or are you looking for something to carve around on.
ive ridden a board with very similar truck system to that board, it will turn a lot tighter than a standard skateboard however it will feel really loose and wobbly to ride. if you are looking at geting a board which is like surfing, check out,

ive ridden alot of their boards and they are very similar to surfing, from they way they are designed they look like they will work in the same way as the board your looking at except they are on wood boards which are alot harder wearing.

also have you thought of building your own board you can get a set of those trucks on the op board for $40 and then get the deck and wheel set up you want

The fish out of water is reinforced. Otherwise it would simply break.

However, the OP is a lot of flash...go for praticallity.

And please, understand that there are other options than sector 9. They are so many other great companies out there that are just as competitve in price and higher in quality.

Ya sorry I didn't know about all the different types of brands since my friends mostly had Sector 9's. I wouldn't mind having a differnt brand but I'm not sure what type of board will be good. I want to learn how to carve better and still able to go down hills around my home. Can someone please help me .

Thanks for the help Tomcat360 but the boards on that site are a bit too expensive hehe . I'm still confused on which brand to get since now you guys have showed me other brands then Sector 9. I want to be able to learn how to carve better and still be able to bomb hills.

go for gravity if you're looking for something cheap
arbor is a step up from sector nine, and there's also gf hurley.
comet and motion make boards in the same class as loaded, but they're probally out of your price range.


tomcat makes boards, and so do I, you could order one of ours, he does really nice v-lam boards.

That Lush Sumba looks awesome and the peoples reviews say it works well. I guess I could try to tell my parents to get it for me for my birthday and maybe I could pay half hehe . I have a question though since the deck of the board is tilited upwards on the nose and back and theres springs located within the board. I didn't ride any type of those boards before and will I be able to learn on it quickly? I want to start carving better since I dont really know how, so will it do the trickand help me powerslide?

I never ridden a skateboard that can carve as well as the Samba. It turns on a sixpence and you also get a wonderful flex of the board at the same time which is so addictive.

Its an easy board to ride and is very stable. Best part though is the wheels slide so progressively at the back that you get this incredible snowboard type effect that just brings a grin to my face.

This is my favorite longboard but unfortunely its not so great in the skateparks where because of the long wheel base it bottoms out going over transitions. But for carving bowls its the nearest thing to surfing on dry land.

The flipped ends act as built in wedges. So instead of wedged riser pads, you've got a wedged board,

Wedges make you turn more/less/more stable. \| |/ is the turniest, which is what this board is.

Originals (the trucks with springs) are a bit of an adjustment, but it's only like 30 minutes and you're back to your regular skating. However, for a first board I wouldn't suggest them. They are great trucks, but I'm not so sure for a beginner.

Instead, you could get Vandals, oops, I mean Randals. But if you wanted some great trucks, get some Crails, and change out the bushings to Tracker Hourglass in something like 85a, and put in a grade 8 kingpin in.

Holey's are also very good. Both are going to cost you though. Randals are probably the best bet if you are trying to save money.

Has anyone else ridden the Lush Samba since I think I may purchase that board or does anyone have any other boards in mind? I want other reviews on it since only one person talked about it.

I haven't particurally tried to make a surfy board, because I don't really ever remember what surfing feels like, if that makes any sense...

27"x7.75 rockered, flat deck, slight kick in tail for barefooting
narrow nose, narrowish side tail with wheel wells, stiff flex
don't try and update my dimensions, this is a gen4 board of this shape and has worked best for what I'm looking for

should have flashbacks in 84 gravity street g's in 81a and narrower trucks, but has s9 nineballs instead for now
tracker darts wedged 7' front and -5 back, khiro white barrel+blue insert top on front with red barrel and red insert top back, rides just like my shortboard

also would work well with tracker rtx/s in 106 with flashbacks 84a, or carver cx but be narrow for the trucks

That's one funky grip. I like it.

After very strictly thinking about what it feels like today surfing, I compared some of my boards when I got home. I've got one, the grunt, which is really surfy. Super flexy, if you ride it back foot heavy it's really surfy. You can get the board and put it on your knee and bend it back into almost a semi circle, but it bounces right back every time. Although kinda cheap, I think the best set up I've done for this is 150 randals and some 65 kyrptos. They are soft, but small enough to do some berts and stuff. Kick tail, no rocker or camber, concaved.

27.5"x9 with 18.5 wheelbase.

I'm making a rockered pin for someone with some glass in it, it should be a good longboard feeling.
