I should be tootling down the A303 right now on my way to Saunton.... But due to my girlfriend not working this weekend (which Im very pleased about) we're not leaving til late this evening or very early tomorrow (which Im not very pleased about)

But I'll be there at saunton tomorrow early for the push! (the second half of it anyway). And as Ive now got a co-driver, we'll be able to hang about on sunday for quite a bit longer and hopefully get another session in sunday morning - and the swell might just hold out for sunday now :D

I've never surfed when it's thundery. I remember when I went swimming in an outdoor pool (in the states - I wouldn't be doing that in england!) and there was this crash of thunder and the lifeguards went mental and ordered us out of the pool! My knowledge of science isn't exactly great, but can't you get electricuted or something?

I went out a month or so ago in the rain. It let up a little; then all of a sudden it just started coming down pretty heavy. It was a really cool experience, but then there were some major lightning strikes not too far away. I decided maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to be out there; and I got out...

No, saltwater is a great conductor, so all the electricity from a bolt of lightning will dissipate through the water immediately. Unless you manage to actually get struck by the bolt, you're completely fine. It's basically the same concept as birds sitting on live wires not being harmed.

Aren't those insulated wires? I think if the birds stepped on a non-insulated part of the wire they would not be so lucky...
