well - for us UK dwellers anyway.
Looks like it could be 6ft+ by the end of this weekend!

When you look outside today and it's glorious sunshine and flat as a millpond - it's hard to imagine in a few days time it's going to be lashing it down with rain with huge monsters crashing in!

the swell is gonna be along the west coast, some will make it up the channel.

The east coast unfortunately is gonna be flat, we had our turn last weekend.

Time to get the skateboard out and practice that ollie

check this:

http://facs.scripps.edu/surf/images/euranim.gif

you may need to give it a few minutes to load - especially if you have a dial-up connection.

you can see the swell form over the atalntic over the next coupl eof days and then make it's way over to slap the UK accross the face! But you can see some of the swell making it's way up the channe as kieran said.

Wow, that’s pretty cool.
So is that big yellow blob gonna splat the South Coast eventually? I assume that means bigger waves?

Is there a site which explains how to predict surf? Its pretty fascinating stuff!

There are numerous sites on the internet that can help with surf forecasting.
I read the book surf science by some chap have a look on amazon its pretty good. You do not have to be particularily technically minded to read it either.

Keep your eye on the various wams and surf reports youll soon learn to pick it up

If you look at the winds unfortunatle they are going to swing onshore which if there is anythign left will be all sloppy. Tis a shme but I'm just glad there is going to be such classicness... prob the last time we will see a bigish swell like this pushing through till autum.

so the 'classicness' is only gonna last a day or 2? from friday is it? i aint very good at workin it out from the charts.

From what ive heard thursday and friday are gonna be the best days.
The north coast of devon will be horribly blown out over the weekend so if you can make it to the south coast go for it

Well its looking like its gonna be good on thurs and fri, with a decent head to head and a half high wave across north devon, its gonna be jacking up friday night to around twice overhead (i hope), wind is gonna mess up all the well known places around here, but there is a few places where it will be clean and sheltered, see ya there locals, (I know where most of you will be)!

p.s. early signs are for it holding out to tuesday with tues possibly being the biggest day, although its uncertain at the mo, see where this beast of a low goes.

ok need a bit of advice!!! you say north devon is gonna be blown out... well i just got an invite to surf croyde for the weekend, would you take up that offer, of surfing all weekend in mushy conditions, or stay in south wales, where i will surf once or twice for an afternoon at rest bay- you seem to think theres better surf there? but then i only get max 4 hours in the surf...

I have a bad feeling that although big waves are predicted, the wind is going to spoil most of it. I think most places will be in for thumping onshore mush!

I am looking for the best place to go and I was looking at Gennith, but, if it's onshore and big, the paddle will be a b!tch.

I might head for the South and hope for some smaller, cleaner sets.

For anyone who's interested I found a site called swell-forecast.com which has tutorials on how to read the various charts etc to predict surf. Worth checking out.

Freaky Welsh Chick - I might be tempted to head for Rest, if it's blown out you can head round the corner a bit and get something a bit more sheltered.

If you head for Croyde, you may get some good conditions, or you may get giant slop you can't handle - I don't know which is worse? A short session in good waves or a longer session in not so good waves. I would probably opt for quality over quantity. That said, if you are going to spend the weekend in North Devon, then you have more opportunities (ie, 3 days) to get some good conditions. Your call I'm afraid.

Cheers
