since your prob. a first time surfer the sharks will sence that so i'd say you have a 25% chance of being eaten alive or get an arm disconnect and if your a guy then perhaps something else disconnected

Although amusing, goths r fun is incorrect. Don't worry too much about sharks - getting attacked is really really unlikely. Have a read here - https://surfing-waves.com/forum/view ... 60&start=0

It depends wether you are in or out of the water  Ok, just kidding. It does happen but if you take into account the number of surfers and the number of attacks, the chances are very slim.

in florida, 100%. hawaii has a shark attack rate on sufrers of about 110%, so if being attacked by a shark isnt your thing, i would recommend surfing in england.

sharks...here's some entertaining statistics for you all....

Postby Brent » Thu Jun 17, 2004 9:43 am

Guys (and concerned people)....
Some useless statistics for you relating to fatal shark attacks. I quote a Maths Lecturer at Otago University (New Zealand) who did some light-hearted numbers on this last year (using available figures worldwide). To put things in perspective for you worriers....

You are 15 times more likely to be kicked to death by a donkey than be killed by a shark.

You are 4 times more likely to be struck and killed by lightening.

You are many times more likely to be killed in a Terrorist Attack than attacked by a shark.

Here's the kicker - you are 20,000 times more likely to be killed in a fatal car accident than killed by a shark.

Now, unless you're really dumb and give yourself afew deep slashes with a box-cutter for fun, then go swimming at evening twilight with a big stinky dog in a deep, cold, clear, seal-populated bay, with a prominant river-mouth nearby. You don't have much to worry about :-)

statistics, attacks & fatal ones...

Postby Guest » Sat Jun 26, 2004 1:08 am

Yesterday I read that in the period 1900-1999, there was 441 documentated shark attacks on humans. 24 were fatal.
Read Brents earlier post on the maths, the odds for us are all pretty good.
Enjoy...

Postby gulfsurfer » Mon Sep 27, 2004 1:25 am

dude that pic has been all over the net, if u look u can obviously tell its a dolphin cuz it has a horizontal tail fin, a shark has a vertical one.
